The mission and/or main activities that contribute to being culturally significant:
Bears of South Florida (BOSFL) is culturally significant because it sustains South Florida’s bear community by pairing year-round social connection with meaningful philanthropy. As a Florida-incorporated 501(c)(3), BOSFL offers a safe, welcoming space for bears, admirers, and allies to gather and turns event proceeds into grants for local LGBTQ+ nonprofits—$100,000 to 12 groups last year—with a 2025 matching drive aimed at doubling that impact. With 3,000+ members, regular meetups at venues like Eagle Wilton Manors, and community weekends, the club strengthens intergenerational ties, visibility, and local economic activity across Wilton Manors and Greater Fort Lauderdale.
